The Rather Helpful F**k It Retreats Holiday Pack (for West Lexham)

Yippee, you’re coming to West Lexham!

This little pack will help you pack correctly, get on the right train, bus or highway and arrive at the correct address, in the easiest and most enjoyable way.

Actually, before we really get stuck in – we need to make something clear – as we get a lot of questions about it –

You’re going to be travelling on the start and end dates of your retreat – 
Eg. In the case of a retreat scheduled for Thursday 18th August to Thursday 25th August (which is the case for 2022) , you’ll be aiming to arrive between 5pm and 7pm on the 18th.
And then you’ll be leaving on the 25th (usually after breakfast, but that clearly depends on your travel arrangements, with check-out of the room at 10am). 

 

 

Some ideas of what to bring:

Our last couple of years at West Lexham have being during covid, so we’ve done a lot outside (sessions and meals)… and we LOVE it…
So we’re likely to be doing the same this time round (weather permitting of course).
So do bear that in mind when you’re packing.
And, yes, bring whatever you’d bring for a holiday in the lovely English countryside in August.

  • Bring whatever you need to stay warm and dry outside during the day and also in the evening in case the weather is not great.  And also pack in case the weather is really warm, as it has been this summer.
  • Bring comfortable footwear and some good walking shoes (if you want to walk in the grounds and around) and even wellies if that’s your thing.
  • Bring sun cream, and swimmers for the wild swimming (and goggles etc. if you want) and a beach towel.
  • Bring comfortable clothing for the sessions (whether they’re inside or out) – remember we’ll be doing some gentle exercises and some moving around… you don’t need full lycra gear, but it’s best not to wear a mini-skirt.
     

The Weather in West Lexham:

Temperatures for August in West Lexham tend to be in the range of 12 – 25 degrees.

So we could have a real mix of temperature and conditions over the week. We mentioned above to pack for all possibilities, remembering that we’ll aim to be outdoors as much as possible, also if the weather is not great.

BY TRAIN 

The nearest station is Downham Market, with direct trains from London Kings Cross (1hr25) and Cambridge (40m). We recommend pre-booking your taxi from Downham Market Station (25 mins).  (Taxi numbers are below).

BY CAR 

West Lexham is a 2.5-hour drive from London and there’s plenty of onsite parking. You will arrive accurately at the location by searching PE32 2QN in your sat nav, with the turning for West Lexham clearly sign-posted on the A1065. 

And, for more detail, the venue gave us this description:
‘For those driving, West Lexham is signposted from either direction on the A1065. You will head up a country track and then reach the West Lexham estate. As you pass the archway on the right hand side you will see a small slate sign indicating ‘Car Park 2’ on your left hand side. Drive up that track and leave your car anywhere on the right. Then head back out of the car park and walk under the archway that you drove past, where you’re likely to find one of the John & Gaia team in the courtyard (from 5-7pm). There is a sign in Car Park 2 which gives instructions to walk back through the archway.

FROM STANSTED AIRPORT 

Take a train to Ely where you can change trains for Downham Market, the local station. We recommend booking a taxi from the station in advance (numbers above). 

FROM NORWICH CITY AIRPORT 

The airport is 45 mins by car. Alternatively, take a bus to Norwich City Centre, where you can take another bus to Swaffham, the local town. From Swaffham, you can book a taxi to take you to West Lexham (15 mins).

Somewhere along the line before the start of the retreat, we’ll be asking you if you have any dietary requirements, and passing those onto the catering team.
